Monica has been an active vo= lunteer and a working interpreter in the Highlands & Moray areas for 20= years. Apart from her involvement within the Chinese community, she ha= s also been working alongside other ethnic minority communities at gras= sroots level to promote race equality and equal opportunities. Her pass= ion and experience in this area has led her to become involved in many = community consultations and projects that bring cultural awareness to t= he Northern part of Scotland. She is currently a member of the Northern= Constabulary Community Advisory Group, the Moray College Equality, Div= ersity and Inclusion Committee and the Moray Council Equality Forum, as= well as a member of the Loch Ness Rotary Club. As the founder and curr= ent chairperson of the Scottish Highlands & islands and Moray Chinese A= ssociation (SHIMCA), Monica was awarded MBE for her contribution to the= Chinese community in the Highland & Islands and Moray in 2009.
